Michael "Mike" Renfro
Areas of expertise:
Human Factors Engineer, Cat Wrangler

Total years experience:
15 years of experience owning my own company and doing contract Human Factors Engineering

Passions/hobbies:
If it paid the same I would probably like to spend all of my time restoring old cars and trucks, or building street rods. To me they are works of art. I really love doing things with my hands. Right now I am learning to play bass.

Pets:
My family has a dog, Max (Border collie), and three cats for her to herd.

What motivates me is...
I love a challenge or competition. It is tough when you don't win, but I always get excited when it is time for the next contest.

Favorite books/movies/television shows:
I still watch re-runs of the X-Files. My favorite ones are those with a lot of "dark" humor. I also like any Alfred Hitchcock movie. My favorite is "Rear Window". I like a fairly broad range of music from punk to bluegrass and especially strange combinations of styles (e.g. country punk). Right now I am into "lounge".

Clint Eccher
Areas of expertise:
I specialize in web design.
I've written two books on the subject, the first of which has been translated into 5 languages — Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates and Advanced Professional Web Design: Techniques & Templates (CSS & XHTML). I also have spent the past 8 years developing software in ColdFusion, such as shopping carts, a content-management system, and various commonly used code modules.

Total years experience:
12 years of web-development experience

Passions/hobbies:
The best use of my time is spent with my daughter. I also oil paint. Any extra time I have is spent reading, watching movies, traveling, and working out.

What motivates me is...
Art. Design. Colors. Shapes. Thoughts. Introspection.

Favorite books/movies/television shows:
I love biographies - mainly of artists (writers, painters, architects, etc.). Some of my favorite movies include O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Thank You For Smoking, What The Bleep Do We Know?, and many foreign films. I don't watch television.

Tim Antonsen
Areas of expertise:
Writing (tech & otherwise), server- and client-side scripting (Perl, JavaScript, PHP, etc), C & Java programming (a tad rusty), photography (digital & analog), basic graphic design, basic web development. Tools: all mainstream writing tools (MSWord to FM +SGML), PhotoShop, PaintShop, still cameras (digital to view). I'm a farm boy with a Bachelor's degree in photography and a Master's in Computer Science.

Total years experience:
Nearly 20 @ HP, and 15 at various other careers/jobs, most notably as a newspaper reporter/photographer.

Passions/hobbies:
If I were Navajo, I would tell you that my fire is in Yellowstone Park. My compass always points there. I love road trips, particularly aimless ones. My view camera is busiest when I have a fresh landscape in my eyes. More foreign travel would be a dream. My interests are wide, though trending toward the natural world and, incongruously, politics. I play a harmonica. Dry wines and top-shelf gins are fine at the end of a day. Sometimes I write things.

Pets:
Skye is a nine-year old Bearded Collie. Like no animal I have ever known, she is made entirely of a pure, almost transcendental love. She is, as dogs often are, eternally patient, endlessly forgiving, and unflaggingly optimistic. But there aren't enough superlatives to express the unmistakable depth of her affection for her family. I only wish I could be the person she thinks I am.

What motivates me most often is curiosity. Of course, I have a desire to contribute something worthwhile through what I fancy to be a broad and rather unique skill set. Fear can work, too.

Favorite books/movies/television shows:
  • BOOKS: "Plainsong" by Ken Haruf, "Shardik" by Richard Adams, "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson, and perhaps most of all, Roget's Thesaurus (and countless others)
  • FILMS: Rob't Redford's "A River Runs Through It", Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein", Woody Allen's "Broadway Danny Rose", Buster Keaton's "The General", Jon Avnet's "Fried Green Tomatoes"
  • TV: "Countdown with Keith Olbermann", "The Office", "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report". But mostly, I don't watch much television.
  • MUSIC: I'm fairly eclectic, and enjoy a wide variety of music. I suppose my tastes lean toward the blues, jazz, Latin, and Celtic genres. I can enjoy, or at least accept, almost anything but opera. But I'd endure four hours of opera over even five minutes of hip-hop/rap.
